How Our In-House Atelier Crafts Every Piece by Hand

How Our In-House Atelier Crafts Every Piece by Hand

In a world of mass-produced jewelry, true craftsmanship is rare, but at Teresa and Sons, it's at the heart of everything we do. From the first sketch to the final polish, every piece is made by hand in our in-house Montreal atelier, blending old-world techniques with modern precision.

Here's a behind-the-scenes look at how we bring custom jewelry to life, crafted with care, detail, and generations of experience.

Built on Tradition, Crafted in Montreal

Our family legacy started with our grandfather, a master goldsmith. Today, we carry that tradition forward in our own Montreal workshop, where custom engagement rings, handmade gold chains, and bespoke diamond pieces are crafted by real artisans, not machines.

When you choose Teresa and Sons, you're not buying off a shelf—you’re investing in time-honored skill and lasting quality.

Step 1: The Design Vision

It all starts with your idea. Whether it's a ring, pendant, bracelet, or chain, we begin with a personal consultation to understand your vision, lifestyle, and preferences. You'll work directly with our team to choose:

  • Gold type (10K, 14K, 18K – yellow, white, or rose)
  • Lab-grown or natural diamonds
  • Chain style (Cuban, Franco, Hermes, Rope)
  • Engraving, finishes, and personalization

Then, our in-house 3D designer creates a digital preview of your piece, so you can see it from every angle before we start crafting.

Step 2: Goldsmithing by Hand

Once the design is approved, our experienced goldsmiths begin shaping, soldering, and filing each element by hand. This stage includes:

  • Melting and casting gold to form your unique structure
  • Hand-linking chains—especially for our thick Cuban chains, which are 100% handcrafted
  • Forming prongs, settings, or bezels for diamonds and gemstones

Every detail is shaped by human touch, not by mass production.

Step 3: Diamond Setting with Precision

Our in-house diamond setter carefully places each stone using high-magnification tools. This allows:

  • Tight, secure setting that protects your diamonds
  • Even alignment and symmetry
  • Artful layouts, from halos to pavé rows to flush settings

We specialize in diamond name necklaces, tennis bracelets, and custom rings, each made with visual balance and durability in mind.

Step 4: Polish, Finish & Quality Check

Your piece is then polished to perfection using Italian-inspired finishing techniques that give it a clean, radiant surface.

For gold chains, this includes:

  • High-gloss buffing
  • Smoothing sharp edges
  • Optional textures like matte or brushed finishes

Before your piece leaves our atelier, it's thoroughly inspected to ensure it meets the highest standards of craftsmanship, weight, and comfort.
